This notice is to tell you that commodity codes for the import and export of certain agricultural products have changed. You can see which codes have changed in this Annex.
These changes come into effect from 1 January 2012. You must use these new codes and relevant descriptions when you apply for import and export licences and advance fixing certificates. You must also declare these new codes on import and export declarations. Read More »

BCC study shows government’s regulatory architecture is inconsistent and opaque.
“Red Tape Challenged?” a new report released today (Monday) by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) shows that the government’s new regulatory architecture is inconsistent and lacks transparency. Through analysis of Impact Assessments* (IAs) by government department, and the feedback on these by the Regulatory Policy Committee, the BCC was able to examine the progress made by the government to improve regulatory policy and reduce the effects of red tape on business.

In March 2013 the requirements of the EU Timber Regulation will come into force. This new legislation prohibits placing timber on the EU market if it was illegally harvested. To achieve this, it sets out procedures which those trading timber within the EU must put in place to minimise the risk of illegal timber being sold. Read More »

• In a survey of 1,200 businesses with more than 50 employees, over half want to take on more staff by 2015
• But businesses are frustrated by a lack of skilled labour in the UK and burdensome employment regulation
A report published by the British Chambers of Commerce reveals that firms with more than 50 employees have ambitions to grow, but are held back by a lack of skilled workers and burdensome regulation. The BCC’s latest Workforce Survey shows that 52 percent of firms want to take on more employees before 2015, with only eight percent looking to reduce staff numbers.
